The Painting Studio offers instruction to artists of all levels of experience individually but in a group setting. Students work at their own pace and in their own style. Weekly critiques and demonstrations will be included. Easels are furnished; students provide their own paints and supplies. Basic materials can be purchased at the Barge Art Store.
Classes are offered in weekly units, with instructors present Monday through Friday.

Explore various methods and techniques while working from still life, the landscape, the figure, and the imagination. Employ various drawing media including charcoal, graphite, conte crayon, chalk, and colored inks.

Through this hand-on studio workshop, K-12 Art Teachers got back to the basics of painting. By combining instruction in painting technique with visual analysis and art historical concepts, this workshop aimed to develop studio practices from the ground up. We explored fundamental issues of painting such as the choice and preparation of support, and the connection between the physical and visual properties of paint. We concluded the workshop with a group critique.

Male and female models alternate weekly. Each session includes quick gesture as well longer sustained poses.

The Children's Studio offers instruction to young people in a variety of art forms, focusing on each type of media weekly. These classes are open to young people ages 8 – 12 of all levels of experience. Indoor and outdoor studio experiences will be combined to provide enriching and creative processes in a natural environment.

The Afternoon studio is a class which offers participants the opportunity to start the day at this time or continue painting for the full day. Bring your lunch and enjoy the view. Weekly critiques and demonstrations will be included. The Afternoon Studio offers instruction to artists of all levels of experience individually but in a group setting. This time period also offers an Introduction to Painting for beginners.

Using landscape, still life, and a live model as inspiration, students explore the special properties of transparent watercolor. Techniques include washes, wet-on-wet, and direct painting. Composition, spatial relationships, the interplay of light and color, and mixing clear colors is also emphasized.

A 2-D application of pasted papers onto a picture surface. This class will also include various assemblage elements, cloth, wood, natural and man-made objects along with paint.

Working from still life and the landscape, explore qualities and techniques of dry pigment hard and soft pastels on assorted working surfaces.

Use the indoor and outdoor environment as a source of inspiration in creating 3-D mixed-media found object art. Weekly emphasis is on developing a means of expression using a combination of tools and supplies: plaster, concrete, driftwood, sand, and shells, natural and manmade materials. A tour of the D’Amico House is also scheduled to study Mabel D’Amico’s studio.
